The man who tried to assassinate former President Donald J. Trump during a political rally was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

It remains unclear why Crooks fired shots at Trump as the assassination attempt is being investigated. The FBI didn't disclose the shooter's when they spoke during the news conference.

Authorities explained that the shooter's DNA and biometrics were being examined during the ongoing investigation. The rally site in Butler, Pennsylvania is still an active crime scene.

L’ancien président américain Donald Trump a échappé, samedi 13 juillet peu après 18 heures, heure locale (minuit, heure de Paris), à une tentative d’assassinat lors d’un meeting en plein air organisé à Butler, en Pennsylvanie. Alors que de nombreux médias et des milliers de partisans républicains étaient présents sur place, plusieurs caméras et appareils photo ont capté des images de cet événement. Une vidéo diffusée sur les réseaux sociaux montre un individu grimper sur un toit à une centaine de mètres de Donald Trump, moins de cinq minutes après le début de son discours. L’individu est de nouveau filmé quelques minutes plus tard, alors qu’il vient d’être abattu par des agents de sécurité. Un photographe du New York Times a lui capturé une image de la trajectoire d’une des balles tirées, filant derrière la tête de Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has received a hero's welcome at the Republican National Convention as the former US president appeared with a bandage on his ear just days after defying death following an assassination attempt on his life.

Donald Trump Jr was seen in tears as his wounded but defiant father appeared.

Secret Service snipers made a split-second decision to take down the gunman after he opened fire on the former president. ABC News' Martha Raddatz shows us how it unfolded in real-time.

Sky News host Gabriella Power has slammed CNN for its initial coverage of the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump.

Ms Power said: “If you were following media outlets like CNN today, you would have thought Donald Trump had a fall”.

A breaking CNN article included a headline which read: “Secret Service rushed Trump off stage after he falls at rally”.

“Falls? It was an assassination attempt. He’s not Joe Biden,” Ms Power said.

Ms Power said it was a “devastating day for America” and claimed there was likely to be growing support for the former president, following the attack.
