Storm Shadow missiles have been used in conflicts all over the world, and are currently being used by Ukraine against the invading Russian forces.
The precision-guided cruise missile can be used against ground targets and is particularly effective against large static targets such as bunkers.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has signalled that Ukraine can use Storm Shadow missiles to strike military targets inside Russia.

According to CNN, the U.S. and Germany foiled a Russian assassination attempt on Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger this year. U.S. intelligence agencies informed German authorities about the plot, who then took action on Papperger's behalf, the U.S. news channel reported on Thursday, citing several official sources. Russia is said to have planned the attack on Papperger because of the German arms manufacturer's deliveries to Ukraine.
The CNN report went on to say that Moscow had planned a series of assassinations of European arms industry executives who were assisting Ukraine in its war against Russian invading forces. However, the plan to assassinate the head of Rheinmetall was the most advanced.

NATO says Ukraine is on an 'irreversible' path to membership.
At the alliance's 75th anniversary summit in Washington, member states also pledged 40 billion euros inaid to Kyiv next year. And some recent deliveries to Ukraine appear to be making a difference on the battlefield.
Following Russia's spring offensive against Ukraine's second city Kharkiv, NATO partners gave Kyiv the green light to use their weapons to target Russian territory. That has helped to stall the Russian advance.

US-Präsidentschaftskandidat Donald Trump ist im Fall eines Wahlsiegs laut Ungarns Ministerpräsident Viktor Orban unmittelbar zu Friedensvermittlungen zwischen Russland und der Ukraine bereit. Das teilte Orban nach seinem Treffen mit Trump vergangene Woche in einem Brief an die EU-Staats- und Regierungschefs mit, der am Dienstag bekannt wurde.
Trump würde mit seinen Bemühungen nicht warten bis zu seiner Amtseinführung als neuer US-Präsident im Januar, sondern sofort nach der Wahl im November damit beginnen, schrieb Orban in dem Brief, der auch an EU-Ratspräsident Charles Michel adressiert ist. "Er (Trump) hat detaillierte und fundierte Pläne dafür", schrieb Orban, der derzeit die rotierende Ratspräsidentschaft der Europäischen Union inne hat.
Der umstrittene ungarische Ministerpräsident hatte kurz nach Übernahme der EU-Ratspräsidentschaft am 1. Juli bereits den russischen Präsidenten Wladimir Putin, Ukraines Staatschef Wolodymyr Selenskyj und auch Chinas Präsident Xi Jinping getroffen. Mit seinem Besuch bei Putin und Xi sorgte Orban in der EU für Empörung. Die EU betonte, dass Orban dafür kein Mandat des Staatenbundes hatte. Die EU-Kommission zog aus den Alleingängen Konsequenzen und will informellen Treffen der ungarischen EU-Ratspräsidentschaft boykottieren und keine Kommissare dazu entsenden.

Russland hat angekündigt, nicht an einem möglichen zweiten Friedensgipfel zur Ukraine teilzunehmen. Vizeaußenminister Michail Galusin erklärte gegenüber der staatlichen Nachrichtenagentur RIA, dass die Kiewer Vorstellungen zu einem Nachfolgetreffen der Konferenz in der Schweiz Mitte Juni bekannt seien. Diese konzentrierten sich ausschließlich auf die Vorschläge des ukrainischen Präsidenten Wolodymyr Selenskyj, während andere Friedensinitiativen ignoriert würden. Galusin betonte, dass solche Ultimaten für Russland unannehmbar seien und sie daher nicht teilnehmen würden.
Der erste Gipfel in der Schweiz wurde auf Bitte der Ukraine organisiert, um internationale Unterstützung für die Prinzipien zur Beendigung des Krieges zu mobilisieren. Etwa 80 Staaten unterzeichneten die Schlusserklärung, jedoch nicht wichtige Länder wie Indien, Saudi-Arabien und China. Saudi-Arabien gilt als möglicher Gastgeber eines zweiten Treffens.
Kremlsprecher Dmitri Peskow bestätigte, dass es derzeit nichts zu bereden gebe. Es fehle an Substanz und Einverständnis über die Tagesordnung. Präsident Wladimir Putin sei zwar bereit zum Dialog, aber es müsse klar sein, worüber gesprochen werde.
Russland, das vor fast zweieinhalb Jahren in die Ukraine einmarschiert ist, betont immer wieder seine angebliche Verhandlungsbereitschaft. Allerdings laufen die Bedingungen Moskaus auf große ukrainische Gebietsabtretungen hinaus. Die Ukraine fordert hingegen die Rückgabe aller besetzten Gebiete, einschließlich der seit 2014 annektierten Krim.

The United States will begin stationing long-range missiles in Germany from 2026. Washington and Berlin say the deployment cements their commitment to NATO and European defense. The agreement includes Tomahawk, SM-6, and hypersonic missiles.
The weapons are nuclear-capable and have a range of more than two thousand kilometers. They were banned under a treaty with Russia until the US withdrew from that treaty five years ago.

When the Soviet Union collapsed in the 1990s Ukraine was one of the largest new nations to emerge. It held its first elections in 1991.
Bordered by Russia on the east and by Hungary, Poland and Slovakia on the west, politics in Ukraine have always been divided along those looking east towards Russia and those looking to the West.
Putin has said that Ukraine is “ancient Russian soil” but the majority of Ukrainians don’t feel this way, with 68% of Ukrainians in favour of joining the EU.

A joint statement by NATO's 32 members says that Ukraine is on a quote 'irreversible' path to membership. At the alliance's 75th anniversary summit, they also pledged 40 billion euros of aid to Kyiv next year. But most of that aid is set to come from the bloc's largest member, the US. And with NATO-sceptic Donald Trump challenging President Biden in November's election, there's no assurance of long-term funding.

A children's hospital has been seriously damaged in Kyiv and at least 31 people have been killed across Ukraine during rare daytime Russian strikes.
Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital - Ukraine's biggest paediatrics facility - sustained major damage during the blast, and pictures from the scene showed young children - some with IV drips - sitting outside the hospital as it was evacuated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is visiting Poland, has vowed to retaliate.

A new type of drone weapon is starting to make its presence known on the front lines in Ukraine - ammunition well suited to the unique capabilities of small drones.
Forbes writes that the military has begun to use thermite, which is capable of burning through metal .
Burning thermite is usually a mixture of iron oxide and aluminum. It burns because the oxygen in the rust is more attracted to the aluminum than to the iron, so it does not need oxygen from outside and will burn underwater. Reaching temperatures of about 4,000F, the thermite reaction tends to melt anything it touches.
Unlike other types of weapons, thermite must be very close to the target. That's why the US Army's AN-M14 thermite grenades are classified as demolition weapons rather than weapons, and are used to "damage, disable, or destroy vehicles, weapons systems, shelters, or munitions." A small drone is ideal for delivering these grenades to a target.
The combination of drones and thermite is a powerful one, as the precise delivery of the drone can direct thermite to exactly where it will have the greatest effect. And even a small amount of green stuff can cause a big fire.
Thermite is not as effective against armor as shaped charge warheads, not as useful for antipersonnel use as fragmentation warheads, and does not have the explosive power of thermobaric designs. But it is very useful for precision attacks against flammable targets.
As Ukraine ramps up drone attacks on Russian oil and gas storage facilities and power substations, thermite is likely to be used more frequently. The metal cages the Russians have begun installing around infrastructure are unlikely to stop the Ukrainians.
There are many drone manufacturers in Ukraine who send them to the front lines to their military. These drones cost about $400-500 and are capable of destroying expensive Russian equipment. Ukraine's Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin predicted a record year for ground drones . According to him, Ukraine wants to protect Ukrainian soldiers in this way.
"You'll see more of them on the front lines. That's one of the changes we expect to see in the next 12 months," he said. In addition, Forbes reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using an experimental American autopilot with artificial intelligence in FPV drones. The autopilot has a higher hit rate than human pilots.

3) All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
4) Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
5) Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
6) Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
7) Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
8) All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
9) Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.
