Joe Biden struggled to read from a teleprompter on Tuesday, muddling the announcement of a major new policy.

The US president, 81, spoke at the NAACP national convention in Nevada, where he  was expected to announce a new 5 percent cap on rental increases nationwide, but instead mistakenly said he would be capping raises of rent to just $55.

Mr Biden has heavily relied on teleprompters during public appearances, often trailing off and losing track of his thoughts without one.

But the president on Tuesday appeared to lack sufficiently good eyesight to decipher what was on the screen in front of him.

Two videos of Biden, already famous for gaffes, are doing rounds on social media giving ammunition to the Republican trolls. In the first video, he was seen awkwardly saluting Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after he arrived for the G7 summit on Thursday. Social media users swiftly shared videos of the awkward salutation, which went viral. While some considered Biden's move out of touch, others applauded him for showing his Italian counterpart some dignity. Meloni, however, seemed unperturbed by the gesture and continued with her engagements.

US President Joe Biden was roasted online after he was caught appearing to sniff a child following his NAACP speech.

Users on X mocked the oldest-ever sitting president as “really creepy” following his strange actions.

“Really creepy. I didn't even hug my grandparents like that as a kid,” wrote one user.

The 81-year-old made a surprise visit to a market in Nevada, Las Vegas, following his speech at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People convention.

The Democrat nominee spoke to crucial black voters and members of the NAACP in his first campaign rally speech since the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

US President Joe Biden has addressed the media and responded to the incident at Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally where the Republican nominee was reportedly injured.

“There’s no place in America for this kind of violence – it’s sick,” he said.

“He should have been able to be conducted peacefully without any problem, but the idea that there is political violence or violence like this in America is just unheard of. It is just not appropriate.

“Everybody must condemn it.”

Former White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has speculated on whether US President Joe Biden will make it to the Democratic National Convention in a month's time.

“It’s not lost on me that this morning Joe Biden gave an interview saying the only thing that would get him out of the race was a serious illness,” Mr Mulvaney told Sky News US Politics Analyst Joe Hockey.

“And then afternoon, he announced he had COVID – it’s not lost on me.”

Sky News Senior Political Reporter Trudy McIntosh says US President Joe Biden previously noted only “God almighty” could make him quit the race for presidency but now concedes medical advice from doctors would also make him consider pulling out.

“In his first interview since that big disastrous debate he said only God almighty could tell him to get out of the race,” Ms McIntosh told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“Here we are now, it is a mere mortal, just a doctor and he says he would change his mind, that is an in for Democrats who are privately harbouring huge concerns about Joe Biden remaining on the top of the ticket.”

With President Joe Biden announcing he will step down as the Democratic nominee this election, some voters already have indicated their preferences for potential successors on the ticket.

Wrong Speak Publishing founder Adam B Coleman has weighed in on whether or not US President Joe Biden will step aside ahead of the election in November.

'He is fuming about the role that these two former allies are playing to oust him from power', says Marks.
