‘God Bless America’: Donald Trump releases statement following shooting

Former US president Donald Trump has released a statement on Truth Social after being shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania.

The former US president thanked the Secret Service and law enforcement for their “rapid response”.

Mr Trump extended his condolences to the family of the person killed in the shooting and the families of those injured.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin,” he said.

“Much bleeding took place, so I realised then what was happening. God Bless America.”
