DEUTSCH-FRANZÖSISCHE FREUNDSCHAFT: "Unverzichtbares Kernstück Europas!" Macron auf Staatsbesuch!

Mit einem eintägigen Abstecher nach Sachsen setzt Frankreichs Präsident Emmanuel Macron an diesem Montag seinen Staatsbesuch in Deutschland fort. Letzter Programmpunkt in Berlin wird am frühen Vormittag eine Kranzniederlegung am Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas sein. Am Mittag werden Macron und seine Frau Brigitte in Begleitung von Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier und dessen Frau Elke Büdenbender in Schloss Moritzburg bei Dresden erwartet. 

Höhepunkt soll in Dresden eine europapolitische Rede Macrons vor der Frauenkirche sein, die sich an die Jugend Europas richten dürfte. Denn bei der Rede werden Tausende Jugendliche aus Sachsen, Polen, Tschechien und Frankreich erwartet. Macron wird daher möglicherweise den Blick auch in Richtung der osteuropäischen Partner richten, die befürchten, sie könnten die nächsten Opfer der Aggression von Kremlchef Wladimir Putin werden.  

Den Tenor für Macron gab im Grunde Gastgeber Steinmeier am Sonntagabend in seiner Tischrede beim Staatsbankett zu Ehren der Besucher aus Frankreich bereits vor, als er zu mehr Leidenschaft für das vereinte Europa aufrief, um dieses am Leben zu erhalten. Es brauche mehr als unseren Geist, sagte er im Schloss Bellevue. «Es braucht unser Herz. Es braucht unsere vereinte Kraft, wenn wir dieses Europa erhalten, wenn wir es gestalten wollen. Es braucht Leidenschaft.» Es brauche vor allem die Leidenschaft der Jugend, betonte Steinmeier.

Macron und Steinmeier hatten zum Auftakt des Besuches am Sonntag die besondere Bedeutung der deutsch-französischen Beziehungen betont und vehement bestritten, dass diese in einer Krise stecken. Dies behauptet beispielsweise der CDU-Vorsitzende Friedrich Merz. Macron betonte, die Zusammenarbeit beider Länder sei «unabdingbar und wichtig». Er widersprach dem Eindruck, dass der deutsch-französische Motor ins Stottern geraten sei: «Das stimmt nicht. Wir schreiten voran.»

Steinmeier sagte dazu in einer gemeinsamen Pressekonferenz mit Macron: «Wenn wir zurückschauen: Es hat eigentlich selten ein Jahr gegeben, in dem nicht Klage geführt wurde über das deutsch-französische Verhältnis.» Hinter dieser Klage stehe ein Missverständnis. «Häufig besteht die Erwartung, dass die europäischen Mitgliedstaaten und insbesondere Frankreich und Deutschland immer einer Meinung sein müssen.» Das übersehe aber, dass es zwei unterschiedliche Länder seien, die eine unterschiedliche Geschichte und unterschiedliche Traditionen hätten - «und ja, auch unterschiedliche Interessen».

In den vergangenen Monaten habe es erhebliche Fortschritte zum Beispiel bei gemeinsamen Rüstungsprojekten gegeben, sagte Steinmeier. «Das verlangt manchmal viel Arbeit, viel Nerven, das auch.» Er sehe die deutsch-französische Zusammenarbeit aber nicht so kritisch wie in manchen Kommentierungen. «Was ich erwarte, ist Ehrgeiz, dass wir bei den Dingen, bei denen wir noch auseinander liegen, dort auch tatsächlich zusammenkommen.»

Vorgesehen ist in Dresden auch ein Besuch des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Photonische Mikrosysteme, wo ein Expertengespräch zu Künstlicher Intelligenz und zur europäischen Mikrochipindustrie geplant ist. Am Dienstag schließt Macron seinen Staatsbesuch dann in Münster ab, wo ihm der Internationale Preis des Westfälischen Friedens verliehen werden soll. 

Direkt im Anschluss daran sind dann am späten Dienstagnachmittag deutsch-französische Regierungskonsultationen in Schloss Meseberg, dem Gästehaus der Bundesregierung nördlich von Berlin, vorgesehen.

Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 492 people in Lebanon in a single day, according to the authorities there, as the conflict escalated into full-scale war. More than 1,600 people were reported to have been injured.

Tens of thousands of people in southern Lebanon fled their homes and headed north on the main road to the capital Beirut in the face of the Israeli assault.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the aim was to change the “security balance” along its northern border. Hezbollah militia, backed by Iran, have been firing rockets across the border into Israel since the Hamas attack of October 7th which led to the war in Gaza.

Israel Defence Forces said it had hit more than 1,300 Hezbollah targets in 24 hours. Hezbollah was reported to have fired 35 rockets into Israel, with no reports of any casualties.

The conflict in Lebanon has escalated sharply in recent days, after pagers and radio handsets exploded, killing and injuring many members of Hezbollah. Israel has not admitted responsibility but is widely regarded as having been behind the attacks.
