Paul Biya has ruled Cameroon for almost 40 years. When his term ends in 2025 he will be in his 90s. And increasingly attention is turning to his successor, with his son Franck Biya considered one of the contenders to fill his father's shoes. A number of political campaign groups have been stoking the fires of succession on his behalf. And raising the possibility of yet another political dynasty taking shape.
There's nothing official, but that hasn't stopped newspapers from speculating about a possible political family hand-over. The word is that Franck Biya could replace his father as Cameroon's president.
IT specialist Gabrielle Aristide is struggling to convince everyone here that Franck Biya should become head of state. He is one of the thousands of Cameroonians who have expressed support for him. And he insists it has nothing to do with succession.
Paul Biya has ruled Cameroon for almost 40 years. He has a firm grip on the army, legislation and judiciary. Analysts believe this could help him prepare his son to take over from him. Professor Ako John Ako says this is all too common in Africa.
Most of Cameroon's 25 million people are under 35 years old and have only known one president. There's a desire for change, but many do not want another Biya to lead the country. Lena Fabrice is an opposition party member who has been organizing small anti-Biya protests. He is strongly opposed to having Frank Biya as the next president.
By law, the president cannot hand over power. But even if Franck Biya becomes president by winning the election in 2025, many here will still see him as his father's son.

A leading politician from Germany's Social Democrats has been attacked while campaigning in the eastern city of Dresden.

Matthias Ecke is a candidate in the upcoming European Parliament elections for Chancellor Olaf Scholz's center-left SPD. He was attacked while putting up campaign posters. Party officials say Ecke was seriously injured and required surgery. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has condemned the attack as a threat to democracy.

Halfway into its four-year term, a new poll says almost three-quarters of Germans are dissatisfied with the work of Germany's governing coalition.
Only 23 percent said they were satisfied with the government coalition, consisting of the Social Democrats, the Greens and the business-friendly FDP party. 66 percent said they were not satisfied with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Only 26 percent said he's doing a good job. And yet, only one in three, or 35 percent, of Germans said they believed the coalition may fall apart before the regular end of their term in office. Some 45 percent of Germans said the government will stay in office as planned- until the next elections in the year 2025.

After weeks of infighting, Free Democrat Finance Minister Christian Lindner and Green Family Minister Lisa Paus have come to an agreement. He's giving her more money to tackle child poverty. It's not the first time the three-way coalition of Social Democrats, Free Democrats and Greens has had to settle a row. Now they are fighting over how to help the economy. The coalition has promised to end the fight at a two-day Cabinet retreat behind closed doors, with many calling for more leadership from the chancellor.
