In a series of media interviews on Tuesday, Liz Truss told Sky News’s Beth Rigby the government had ‘not yet’ made a decision on whether to increase benefits after the rise of inflation, despite the former prime minister Boris Johnson promising to do so.

Brazil is suffering the impact of coronavirus infections more than almost any other country. Health workers there have called on the International Criminal Court to investigate President Bolsanaro’s government.
They accuse it of crimes against humanity over its mishandling of the pandemic, which they say has led to thousands of unnecessary deaths.
Brazil has recorded almost 2.5 million cases of the disease since March and more than 87,000 people are known to have died.
The pressure is beginning to ease in big cities like Sao Paulo, but cases are rising rapidly in smaller towns and cities in Brazil’s vast interior, where health services are often basic.
Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting from Katy Watson in Campinas.

The power dynamics in Bengal are significantly heated, marking an increase in tensions between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Congress Party. The politics in Bengal have taken a bitter turn after Bengal Chief Minister and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee criticized the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. This instigated a war of words leading to Bengal Congress President, Adhiranjan Chaudhary, responding with accusations against the TMC. Chaudhary suggests that the rhetoric voiced by Mamata Banerjee is remarkably similar to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders' statements, perhaps implying a syncing of political agendas. This claim further fuels the allegation that the TMC Supremo is adopting BJP's language. Meanwhile, Congress President Malik Arjun Khadge's remarks have set off a separate large-scale controversy. The socio-political chessboard in Bengal is turning into an intense battlefield, redefining political alliances and creating deep-seated rivalries. #BengalPolitics #TMC #Congress #BJP #BharatJodoNyayYatra #MamataBanerjee #AdhiranjanChaudhary #PoliticalFeud #MalikArjunKhadge

A cross-party group of MPs has called for political parties to publish the number of women they put forward for election to end the “diversity deficit” in Parliament.
Several senior politicians signed a letter urging the UK Government to enact Section 106 of the Equality Act (2010) that would ensure parties reported their gender gap among election candidates.
The call comes in the week marking 100 years since women first gained the right to stand for election to the House of Commons.

As the November election approaches, GBH News invited a panel of experts to share their understanding of partisanship and disunion in the country. Just how divided are we, and what is the psychology that drives these divisions? With a deeper understanding of the current situation and a larger historical context, perhaps we can make more choices that will help us bridge the divides that separate us. Specifically the panel examines the role of media and perception in polarization, the history of partisanship, and what we can do to move forward to bridge the divide.
