During the presidency of Lula Da Silva, billions of dollars in bribes were taken to allow construction companies to overcharge the government-owned oil company, Petrobras. Now, Brazil has corruption, but it's actually pretty good for a developing country. But the people of Brazil have come to expect more, and they have been left down.

Current president, Dilma Rousseff, was chairwoman of Petrobras during the period of corruption, but no one knows whether Lula or Dilma were involved or aware. But Lula was under investigation before Rousseff appointed him to be her chief of staff, a move that means he can no longer be prosecuted by a normal court.

I think this whole thing speaks very highly of Brazil. A reckoning had to come, and I'm pleased the citizens are holding the government accountable. However, I can't stop seeing parallels between the awful partisan situation here in the U.S. and the lack of skepticism people in this story have when it comes to believing awful things about their political opponents.

Using this scandal to clean up Brazil must be done, but using it to score political points or gain power is going to rip the country apart.

This is an epic story, and no one knows where it ends. Whether Rousseff retains power and who gets elected once the house is fully cleaned out will say a lot about how this very young democracy handles its economic and cultural growth when people's perceptions are controlled largely by social media.

I think there are many good things in Brazil's future, but leaders will have to do more than fight for power. They will have to actually lead.

Paul Biya has ruled Cameroon for almost 40 years. When his term ends in 2025 he will be in his 90s. And increasingly attention is turning to his successor, with his son Franck Biya considered one of the contenders to fill his father's shoes. A number of political campaign groups have been stoking the fires of succession on his behalf. And raising the possibility of yet another political dynasty taking shape.
There's nothing official, but that hasn't stopped newspapers from speculating about a possible political family hand-over. The word is that Franck Biya could replace his father as Cameroon's president.
IT specialist Gabrielle Aristide is struggling to convince everyone here that Franck Biya should become head of state. He is one of the thousands of Cameroonians who have expressed support for him. And he insists it has nothing to do with succession.
Paul Biya has ruled Cameroon for almost 40 years. He has a firm grip on the army, legislation and judiciary. Analysts believe this could help him prepare his son to take over from him. Professor Ako John Ako says this is all too common in Africa.
Most of Cameroon's 25 million people are under 35 years old and have only known one president. There's a desire for change, but many do not want another Biya to lead the country. Lena Fabrice is an opposition party member who has been organizing small anti-Biya protests. He is strongly opposed to having Frank Biya as the next president.
By law, the president cannot hand over power. But even if Franck Biya becomes president by winning the election in 2025, many here will still see him as his father's son.

How Germany's government tries to overcome its political infighting | DW News

Halfway into its four-year term, a new poll says almost three-quarters of Germans are dissatisfied with the work of Germany's governing coalition.
Only 23 percent said they were satisfied with the government coalition, consisting of the Social Democrats, the Greens and the business-friendly FDP party. 66 percent said they were not satisfied with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Only 26 percent said he's doing a good job. And yet, only one in three, or 35 percent, of Germans said they believed the coalition may fall apart before the regular end of their term in office. Some 45 percent of Germans said the government will stay in office as planned- until the next elections in the year 2025.

After weeks of infighting, Free Democrat Finance Minister Christian Lindner and Green Family Minister Lisa Paus have come to an agreement. He's giving her more money to tackle child poverty. It's not the first time the three-way coalition of Social Democrats, Free Democrats and Greens has had to settle a row. Now they are fighting over how to help the economy. The coalition has promised to end the fight at a two-day Cabinet retreat behind closed doors, with many calling for more leadership from the chancellor.

Young men are more likely than women to drop out of college, commit suicide, and support far-right parties. But while misogynistic influencers like Andrew Tate are correctly blamed for fueling the incel manosphere's backlash against feminism, there is a lot more to this story than incels, culture wars and wokeness. From stagnant economies and unaffordable housing to fears of cultural obsolescence, young men are grappling with a myriad of challenges that seldom enter the public discourse. So what is really behind the growing political rift between Gen Z Boys and Girls?

In the video we talk to Richard Reeves, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution and author of the book "Of Boys and Men" where he explores all the ways in which the modern male is struggling. Alice Evans, visiting scholar at Stanford University, who is travelling around the world to study this divide and makes the point that lagging economies, corporate algorhythms, and patriarchal mentality can explain this backlash. And Neil Shyminsky, Professor at Cambrian College and famous on TikTok as @professorneil, who sees in Influencers like Andrew Tate as a main threat.
